Release-preparation draft — this policy is not final and must be reviewed before App Store release.
Vision Dictionary is a visionOS vocabulary-learning app that uses speech recognition, spatial interaction, and translation to help users associate words with nearby objects and surfaces.
Vision Dictionary uses microphone access so the user can speak an English word or short phrase for a nearby object or surface.
Microphone audio is processed locally by Apple speech-recognition frameworks. Vision Dictionary does not upload raw microphone audio, and the app does not store that audio. The final recognized text may be sent off the device for translation.
Translation currently follows this path:
Vision Pro → Cloudflare Worker → DeepL → Cloudflare Worker → Vision Pro
A translation request contains:
The translation request does not contain:
Cloudflare and DeepL are third-party service providers used to provide translation and abuse protection.
DeepL's handling and retention of submitted translation content is governed by DeepL's applicable service terms and privacy documentation. Vision Dictionary's production provider configuration may be updated before public App Store release.
Normal network connections expose an IP address to Cloudflare. The Vision Dictionary translation Worker uses the client IP address as a rate-limiting key for abuse prevention.
Vision Dictionary's Worker code does not custom-log the IP address or store it in an application database. This statement does not describe or make claims about Cloudflare's infrastructure-level handling or retention of network data.
Vision Dictionary locally accesses information needed for spatial placement, including:
This spatial and environment information is not transmitted by Vision Dictionary's application code.
Vision Dictionary stores the following information locally on the device:
No account or cloud synchronization is currently implemented. The complete Vocabulary Vault is not uploaded. Only the data needed for the current translation request—the source text, source and target languages, and optional static translation context—is sent off the device.
The current Vision Dictionary implementation does not include:
Translation-request data is sent to Cloudflare and DeepL only as needed to fulfill the translation request and provide abuse protection. This section describes the current implemented data flow and does not make broader legal conclusions about data processing by third-party providers.
Vocabulary and settings remain on the device until the user clears or resets them, removes the application, or removes the application's data, as applicable.
Vision Dictionary does not currently maintain a remote database or cloud-synchronization service for your vocabulary or app data.
Third-party network and service retention is governed by the providers' respective terms and privacy documentation and will be finalized before release.
Vision Dictionary is not specifically directed to children under 13.
You can choose not to grant microphone access, or you can disable microphone access later in system settings. Without microphone access, speech-based vocabulary creation will not function.
You can remove locally stored vocabulary from within Vision Dictionary using the available reset controls. Spatial sticky data can also be cleared using the app's spatial-stickies reset control. Removing the app and its data also removes the app's locally stored data, subject to normal platform behavior.
Vision Dictionary does not currently create user accounts or maintain a remote user-profile database. Translation requests are sent without a Vision Dictionary user ID or device ID.
